Selective Simplicity

Many of the things that we own, use our finite time, or capture our interests weren’t even intentionally selected. In most cases, their acquisition or allowance into our lives was as a result of someone else’s action or opinion. Without being placed within the influence of these externalities, we likely wouldn’t live in the same way we do.

This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but ignorance to this truth can become the source of much frustration and distraction. Knowing this provides us with a way out of any mess we’ve entangled ourselves in, serving as a fallback for when our voluntarily imposed systems fail.

There is a sense of relief to be brought about by knowing that we are not made complete by the things we possess or the ways we spend our time. Our completion, which we rarely acknowledge face-to-face, is always available, not in what is happening, but in that it is happening.

Don’t be afraid to build a new foundation if you have doubts about the heights you can reach. It only gets more difficult as time goes on and today will always reward action more than tomorrow.
