Setting course on the path less travelled

Ideas are great. They can inspire us, motivate us, give us a sense of hope, or change everything in our lives. Without follow-through and execution though, ideas are nearly worthless.

Many instances of inaction or squandered ideas can be attributed to our brain. You see, the brain acts as the intermediary between ideas – sometimes the most incredible and influential components of life – and how things have always been done—our evolution and conformity-driven brain.

Great ideas are few and far between, especially when it comes to how to live life. When given the privilege of receiving a great idea, it would be an unbelievable disservice to merely think on it and set it aside to rot in the cemetery of wasted thought.

It can be difficult to follow these ideas because they’re often counterintuitive in comparison to the masses of society and the social structures we have set up as a species. In most cases, however, the discomfort we fear is only temporary, if existent at all. The fire is often not a fire.

When these ideas come, grab on and allow them to carry you away. The adventure of life awaits beyond the horizon of certainty and security.

“If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music he hears, however measured or far away.”

~ Henry David Thoreau
