The Myth of “Enough”

Some of the biggest lies we tell ourselves on a consistent basis start with “I don’t have enough *blank*”. Time, experience, money, whatever it may be.

We look to find reasons why we can’t take action on something, or why we shouldn’t take a risk.

The truth is, we never have “enough” of anything. There will always be things that we don’t know, and there will always be things that we learn along the path of trying. Any stance along the lines of “when I am HERE, then I will be ready” is completely arbitrary, and if you end up getting to wherever “here” is, you realize you’re just as fearful of the risk as you were before.

Knowledge is certainly something to be leveraged, but there will always be things that we are unaware of and susceptible to. Therefore, every action we take is essentially a calculated risk. And in many cases with risk, self-belief is a major factor in what the outcome will be.

We don’t have enough now, and we won’t ever. The question we must ask ourselves then becomes “Am I ready to try?”.

Ultimately it is our dedication and perseverance that will lead us to our desired outcomes, not the arbitrary benchmarks we set for ourselves.
