If we think about it, most of the decisions we think we make are not of our own doing. And I don’t mean this in the context of free will, but with reference to group think.
You see, we always gravitate towards views held by the majority. Views on how we should spend our time, what qualities are desired in a person, and how we should generally live our lives.
We often adopt these principles without examining them at a fundamental level, and this incites a chain reaction of moral adoption. This type of adoption even has a name: dogma. Releasing ourselves of the duty to make our own free choices, we give up virtually everything that makes us unique individuals. In order to not appear different or out of line, we accept the results of other people’s thinking and shape our beliefs and views to these ideas.
In doing this, we relinquish our intellect and our integrity. Instead of playing our part in creating a better tomorrow, we conform to what today has outset as truth.
One of the greatest obstacles we will face in this life is summoning the courage to be different from the majority and speak our truth. If we’re being truly honest, a lot of the world doesn’t make sense. Over history, it is precisely those who have bravely stood against the status quo and made critical remarks who have shaped the world for the better.
If we all were even just a little bit braver, the world would be a better place. Release the voice inside you that you have kept quiet. Let it speak, and let people hear.
We were not born to be silent in the face of opposition. We were not born to be a cog in the cycle of suffering. We were born in love, for love. Don’t be afraid to show it.
