What are you searching for?

The world can appear to be pretty bleak at times. We all experience those days where the magic of life is nowhere to be found, and empathy and compassion are hard to come by. Sometimes those days can last for a long time, and they can be difficult to get through.

You see, it’s incredibly easy to get smothered by the cynicism and nihilism that is readily available for our viewing on the internet. A world of information is literally at our fingertips.

The problem with such accessibility is that we can often come across material unintentionally, and that information has the ability to lead us on ride – more often than not a downward spiral.

The internet and social media, arguably the most transformational technologies in human history, have the potential to be a force for good or bad in every user’s life.

When we choose to use such platforms, we should be conscious of the need to control the flow of information that we receive. If we don’t, we are at the mercy of an intelligent algorithm that can’t distinguish between what’s good for us and what isn’t.

When we are aware of the consequences of using social media, the positives and the negatives, we can make better judgements on what to expose ourselves to.

Ultimately, we control what we see and how it makes us feel.

With any conceivable topic just a few clicks away, we find what we seek out.

We find reports of homicide and genocide in the same feed that we see pictures of baby showers, anniversaries, and graduations. Where we find light, the darkness is equally as prominent.

But here’s the thing: we find what we seek.

That liberating truth is the gateway to freedom and autonomy. By taking charge of how we perceive the world, our existence is moulded to our desires.

If you seek misery and apathy, you will find it. If you seek joy and excitement, you will find it too.

Seek wisely.
